This is a virtual class. There will be a lot of interactions between the teacher and the students, just like in the traditional class setting.
A formal study of English grammar and vocabulary is the basis of language study. Building a sense of structure and syntax, and understanding origins of and relationships between words, strengthens language skills. Whether a child is academically advanced or academically behind, further progress only happens through language dissection. Please see research articles that provide further information.
Grade level and reading level are two important indicators that determine appropriate study levels. Furthermore, our levels build slowly from sentence writing to advanced academic writing, just as students are taught in school. Level 1 introduces grammar and sentence writing skills; level 2 introduces more grammar and paragraph writing skills; level 3 builds on grammar from the first two levels and introduces essay writing skills.
We try to keep class levels small to ensure regular student-teacher interaction. Our student/teacher ratio is 12:1.
Due to the current COVID pandemic causing major changes in school schedules from town-to-town, we are speaking directly with families to set up a convenient time for everyone. At the moment, we hope to begin the week of February 1 and are aiming for afternoon classes. We are getting information that students have classes with their teachers earlier in the day and are typically done by lunch. We believe a 1:00 PM class would be easiest for all parents. We will, of course, confirm with parents individually and set a convenient time for everyone.
All our teachers are experienced in the subject matter. They know the materials very well and are experienced in teaching children.
